Cheap flats in Malaga: where to buy away from the pricier Costa del Sol

Pisos baratos en Málaga: dónde comprar lejos de la Costa del Sol más cara

Malaga has gone from being a cheap capital to one of the fastest-rising in Spain. Even so, away from the historic centre and the coast there are still neighbourhoods and towns where buying on a tight budget is possible.

Neighbourhoods in Malaga city

Palma-Palmilla, Ciudad Jardín, Bailén-Miraflores and Campanillas hold most of the city’s cheap flats. Cruz de Humilladero has a large supply of three-bedroom flats and good links to the centre.

Inland towns

Alhaurín de la Torre, Cártama, Pizarra and Coín, in the Guadalhorce valley, offer larger houses and flats at prices well below the coast, with a train or motorway into Malaga.

Tips for Malaga

  • Be wary of prices that look too good in tourist areas: they often hide charges or licensing problems.
  • Ask whether the building has a formally constituted owners’ association with fees up to date.
  • Value proximity to the Cercanías train or metro if you will work in the centre.
