Finding a cheap rental in Barcelona takes speed and a bit of method. Well-priced flats disappear within hours, so it helps to know where to look and which documents to bring to the viewing.
Where the cheapest rentals are
The districts of Nou Barris, Sant Andreu and Horta-Guinardó keep coming up as the most affordable areas. Outside the city limits, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Badalona offer flats with metro access at noticeably lower prices than Barcelona itself.
Tips to get there first
- Set up email and app alerts on the main property portals.
- Have your ID, employment contract and latest payslips ready in a single file.
- View the same day if you can and bring a deposit ready if the flat fits.
- Ask neighbourhood estate agents about flats that have not been listed yet.
Mistakes that cost money
Be wary of listings that ask for money before you see the flat, of disguised short-term contracts and of deposits above what the law allows. Also check that the landlord is the real owner by requesting a land registry extract (nota simple).
